Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based treatment approach in which clients learn to recognize the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. What makes CBT unique is that it is skill-based, time-limited, and collaborative between the client and the therapist. We will work together to determine how to best meet your needs and help you achieve your goals. We are trained in providing CBT to individuals across the lifespan presenting with a wide range of challenges, including Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiety, Specific Phobias, Separation Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Trichotillomania, Excoriation, Depression, and Oppositional Behavior Disorder. Ultimately, you will gain the skills needed to become your own “therapist” and continue the work independently long after therapy has ended. We believe a CBT therapist has done their job if their clients no longer need them.
When working with parents, we utilize a customized approach by combining relevant Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills and elements of Parent Management Training (PMT). We are committed to understanding the influence of family culture and if needed, adapting interventions to better fit within that culture. Interventions focus on perspective taking, setting expectations, and providing positive attention for desired behaviors. Caregivers are utilized as the vehicle of change and children may never have to attend a session. This approach is effective for parents of children of all ages who are exhibiting a variety of challenges, including Oppositional Behavior Disorder, Anxiety, and Depression. If your child is reluctant or refusing to participate in therapy, parenting sessions are typically a good first step in providing your child with needed support. Let us help you get back to parenting with confidence and enjoying quality time together as a family.
We believe the most beneficial aspects of participating in group therapy are learning from those with similar experiences and feeling understood and a sense of belonging. Based on the needs and interests of those we serve, we will be offering an array of groups, including a Young Adult DBT Skills Group and an Adolescent Multi-Family DBT Skills Group for children ages 11-16 and their caregivers. Parenting groups will also be offered, including a group for new parents, parents with anxious children, and parents with strong-willed children.
